Smartboot study

We are a team of clinician researchers comparing 3 types of offloading boots for people with diabetic foot ulcers.




We want to know:

1) how to help people wear these boots &

2) how much activity people should have when wearing these boots.

National Institutes of Health (NIH)

Interested?

You may be eligible to participate if you:

  • Are over 18 years old
  • Have had a diabetic foot ulcer
  • Can walk at home (with or without help)
  • Are willing to come weekly for 12 weeks (or until your ulcer is healed)
  • You are comfortable answering survey questions (in person or over the phone)

How the study works

You would be randomized to 1 of 3 groups and wear your assigned offloading boot for 12 weeks. The full study, including phone follow-ups, would be 52 weeks.


Groups:

1) You cannot remove your boot

2) You can remove your boot

3) You can remove your boot & will receive a smartwatch that provides feedback
